Good but I disagree with the last question- there ARE studies that treating your hearing loss can prevent a 200-500% risk of dementia- and as a field of audiology we treat hearing loss through devices and we need to show more of this evidence that they can help prevent the RISK (obviously cannot cure it)

The information regarding hearing loss and dementia has been somewhat confusing. Information provided to my patients has been somewhat overzealous and incorrect according to this article. We were lead to believe that even a mild hearing loss could help increase the risk of dementia. This isn't so according to Dr. Reed

The relationship between hearing loss and dementia is so very relevant at this time given the increased statistics on the number of individuals diagnosed with Alzheimers and/or dementia. I appreciated the authors explanation on the challenges of definitively concluding the relationship between these 2 diagnosis. This article provided compelling evidence for audiologists to feel even more confident with recommendations to seniors that successful hearing aid fitting can be an asset in delaying cognitive decline.
