This course will explore the nature and scope of human trafficking internationally, throughout the US and in Ohio specifically. Participants will learn about the dynamics of control in human trafficking, impact on victims, how to identify and report human trafficking, and community and statewide efforts to combat human trafficking. US rules, regulations and laws contribute to the foundation of this course.

Michelle Hannan, MSW, LISW-S is the Director of Professional and Community Services for The Salvation Army’s Southwestern Ohio/Northeastern Kentucky Division. In Central Ohio and Greater Cincinnati, Michelle is responsible for the development and implementation of victim services for trafficked persons, including outreach, 24/7 anti-trafficking hotlines, emergency response, support and long term comprehensive case management for trafficked persons.
In these regions, Michelle has had the privilege of providing leadership to the Central Ohio Rescue and Restore and End Slavery Cincinnati coalitions. These collaborative, multi-disciplinary networks bring together individuals and professionals to coordinate victim services, impact strong anti-trafficking legislation and increase the community’s ability to identify and respond to trafficking.
Michelle is a member of The Salvation Army’s North American and Eastern Anti-Trafficking Councils and the Ohio Human Trafficking Commission. Serving as Chair of the Commission’s Victim Services Committee, Michelle has been instrumental in developing emergency response and comprehensive care protocols and facilitating coalition development in Ohio communities. Michelle has lectured extensively on human trafficking, including teaching a semester course on human trafficking at The Ohio State University College of Social Work.
