Very eye opening and I will definitely implement more speech-in-noise testing and also consider "mild gain" aids for some of the pediatric (esp. teenagers) who are experiencing difficulty but yet have normal audios. Great presentation! Thank you for sharing your insight.

I, too, am an 'old' audiologist and can relate to her early consults with normal-hearing patients. I always that it was a 'relief' to these patients' to learn that they have normal auditory systems and normal hearing. I believe I will look at these patients differently from now on. Thank you for the insights.

This course supports the contention that those individuals purporting perceived hearing difficulties and audiometrically identified with minimal or normal hearing, should not be dismissed without consideration for trialed low gain amplification and, if warranted, aural rehabilitation.

In 1998 my professor talked about fitting hearing aids for APD, and it always stuck with me. When I began practicing no one else recognized that option. I read your article with Francis Cooke years ago and was glad to see, you shared her sentiments. Having auditory issues associated with ADD, I began using them myself. I went on to fit others with severe auditory complaints, tinnitus and misophonia. The common theme is that this is life changing.

I'm a Hearing Instrument Specialist and too old to get a doctorate but find this work fascinating. I do have patients with trauma history and need more support in noise. In addition, there have been normal audiograms and frustrated clients that left without treatment. This insight and body of continued work is fascinating and helpful (especially for the mother that can now listen to son and go to store). I have an experience of having too much auditory stimulation when taking Adderall.

Good information on the possible impact of hidden hearing losses on those experiencing/struggling with hearing loss symptoms with normal audiograms. I have seen many patients like this in the 2years I've been working. Would have liked more information on consideration when fitting these people - anyone with "normal/slight" losses I've tried amplification on comment the HA's add too much extra noise and they don't like how they sound.

Dr. Whitelaw's presentation underscores something I have personally been very familiar with during my 45+ yrs as an audiologist, you must listen to your patient's complaints and when you do, you'll find a clear roadmap to help them solve their concerns. I have been fitting hearing aids on patients with so called "normal hearing" with hearing complaints for the last 30 years -specifically those presenting speech in noise difficulties and recently addressing extended high freq losses 10-16KHz.
