Course: #40714Level: Intermediate 1 Hour 270 ReviewsThe Hearing Health Collaborative is a multidisciplinary alliance between audiologists, physicians, professional organizations, and patient advocacy groups that took a scientific approach to understand the causes preventing early identification of hearing loss. Three Primary factors were identified: (1) the need for a vital sign for hearing loss, (2) a necessary hearing loss staging system, and (3) clearly defined best practices for screening and referral, particularly within primary care.

Erin L Miller, AuD is a Professor of Instruction in the School of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology at the University of Akron and serves as the Clinical Education Coordinator for the Northeast Ohio AuD Consortium. She is currently a member of the Hearing Health Collaborative, serves as the University liaison to the Audiology Clinical Education Network, and has been a member of the American Academy of Audiology Practice Policy Advisory Committee for the past 9 years. She is a past president of the American Academy of Audiology, the Ohio Academy of Audiology, and the Northern Ohio Academy of Audiology, and has served on numerous state and national committees. Her professional interests include amplification, auditory processing disorders, and precepting. She currently serves as Secretary for the Hearing Health Collaborative.

Matthew Carlson
MD, MBA
Matthew L. Carlson, MD, is a Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology at the Mayo Clinic (Rochester), and the Chair of the Division of Otology. He currently serves as Co-chair of the Hearing Health Collaborative. He specializes in treating diseases of the middle ear, temporal bone, and skull base. His primary research interests include clinical outcomes in cochlear implantation and acoustic neuroma tumors (vestibular schwannoma).
