AFA Helps Student Attend NHCA Convention

Lafayette, IN - Money provided to the Audiology Foundation of America (AFA) by industrial audiologist Nancy N. Green, Au.D., for a specially targeted initiative allowed a student interested in the specialty to attend the annual National Hearing Conservation Association (NHCA) conference this past February.

Laura Roberts, a fourth-year Au.D. student at the University of Florida, loved the opportunity to learn more about this specialized area of audiology.

"I find the field of industrial audiology very interesting and the NHCA conference was a great opportunity to meet leaders in this field and hear about cutting-edge research that will help prevent noise-induced hearing loss in the military and civilian populations," said Roberts. "This was important to me as a future audiologist, as the wife of a Marine Corps officer, and as an extern working with veterans of all ages."

Dr. Green has been an audiologist for over 27 years. She currently lives in Jacksonville, FL, but travels throughout the southeast and the Caribbean working and consulting as an industrial audiologist.

"There is an impending critical shortage of audiologists who wish to specialize, or even keep current, in this area," said Dr. Green. "We need more students to seriously consider industrial audiology as a career path, and I was thrilled to have the opportunity to foster interest in my chosen specialty in someone else."
