Ottawa, On - The Canadian Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists is pleased to announce their acceptance of awards from both the Canadian Society of Association Executives and PR News.

CASLPA executive director Ondina Love and communications manager, Angie D'Aoust were honoured to accept the Canadian Society of Association Executives (CSAE) award at the recent CSAE conference held in Hamilton, ON, Saturday, October 20, 2007. CSAE is the national professional organization which serves individuals and businesses in the association sector.

CASLPA was awarded the "Associations Make A Better Canada Award" in the Public Information/Education category for the television public service announcement campaign launched last fall. This award celebrates the added value associations bring to Canadian society and recognizes outstanding success in building commitment to raise the standards of the profession for the sake of those served. CASLPA distributed the two television public service ads, one for each profession (speech-language and audiology) in both official languages in November 2006. The ads were distributed to 135 television stations across Canada. Confirmed donation of air time was received from more than 56 television stations resulting in 16,240 airplays and a total number of audience impressions of 19,033,280 (almost double our original measurable goal).

CASLPA earned further accolades, being recognized as an international award winner by PR News, a prominent American public relations publication. The 2006 Noisy Toys campaign has been recognized in the Public Service Campaign category where CASLPA competed with other excellent campaigns, including many large American associations with sizeable budgets. The awards presentation will take place December 4, 2007 at the National Press Club in Washington D.C. where CASLPA will be formally presented with a crystal trophy and learn whether they are the top winner in the category.

The Noisy Toys campaign was a great success last year reaching close to 8 million Canadians in 53 communities generating 128 media segments (36 radio, 39 television and 53 print) including coverage in Toronto Star, CBC National News and Canada AM. In addition to the media coverage, this program greatly enhanced CASLPA's relationship with key government decision makers and with Industry Canada.

CASLPA partnered in this project with the Elks and Royal Purple of Canada. The national charity of the organization, The Elks and Royal Purple Fund For Children, has provided millions of dollars to combat speech, hearing and communication disorders in children. The Fund supports literacy, stuttering and auditory rehabilitation programs, and many other initiatives in all regions of the country.

With more than 5,000 members, the Canadian Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (CASLPA) is the only national body that supports and represents the professional needs of speech-language pathologists, audiologists and supportive personnel inclusively within one organization. Through this support, CASLPA champions the interests of those who require speech, language, and hearing services and promotes awareness of how speech-language pathologists and audiologists contribute to the well-being of Canadians living with communication disorders.
