Clarke's Professional Training Institute Welcomes Carol Flexer

Noted audiologist Carole Flexer, Ph.D. of the University of Akron will present, "How to Achieve Spoken Communication and Literacy Outcomes for Children who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing" on March 27, 2006 from 8:30 to 4:00 p.m. at the Elks Lodge in Florence, MA, (a village of Northampton) as part of CLARKE's Professional Training Institute. Intended for audiologists, speech/language pathologists and teachers of the deaf, this presentation will cover acoustic phonetics as related to auditory methodologies, auditory brain development, classroom acoustic modifications and cochlear implant function.

"This is a great opportunity for professionals to learn from an internationally known expert in the field of audiology as related to deafness. We are delighted to bring her to Northampton," said CLARKE Educational Audiologist Lisa DiMaria.

The cost of the workshop is $100 and includes registration fee, continental breakfast, lunch and materials. CLARKE is approved by the American Academy of Audiology and the American Speech-Language Hearing Association to offer CEUs for this presentation.

Dr. Flexer has been at The University of Akron in Ohio for 27 years where she is a Distinguished Professor of Audiology. Her special areas of expertise include pediatric and educational audiology. She has lectured extensively nationally and internationally, has authored more than 140 publications and has co-edited four books. Dr. Flexer is a past president of the Educational Audiology Association, a past board member of Auditory-Verbal International and a past president of the American Academy of Audiology.

For almost 140 years, the CLARKE - School for the Deaf/Center for Oral Education in Northampton, MA, has been developing the listening and speaking skills of children with hearing loss. More than 500 students and their families are served in our five schools and educational programs along the East Coast.
