Facilitating Spoken Language Development for Young Children with Hearing Loss

Every year in the United States, more than 17,000 babies are born with some kind of hearing loss. With the advent of newborn hearing screening, early intervention and advanced technology options, young children today have the potential to develop age-appropriate language.

This program highlights the importance of early intervention and the specific early intervention services children need to maximize their spoken language outcomes with a cochlear implant and/or hearing aid(s). At this one-day program, attendees will learn from nationally known experts and clinicians and service providers from within their own communities who work with families each day that are affected by hearing loss. Heather Whitestone McCallum, Miss America 1995, will discuss the opportunities available today that were not available when she was diagnosed with hearing loss. Please join us at this important event to learn more about your role in supporting families in your community to help them make fully- informed decisions about their childrens' lives.

This program is made possible through the Cochlear Americas' HOPE program (Habilitation Outreach for Professional Educators), and in partnership with cochlear implant centers in the five tour states.
