DC City Council Passes Licensure Bill for Audiologists and SLPs

Share:

The District of Columbia City Council passed licensure legislation for the professions of audiology and speech-language pathology on December 5, 2006. The DC Speech-Language-Hearing Association as well as the ASHA national office actively participated in the legislative process and were successful in effecting amendments to the original legislation to ensure that the new DC licensure law would be consistent with the licensure laws in other jurisdictions. The legislation is expected to be signed by the DC mayor in the near future. With the passage of this legislation, all 50 states and the District of Columbia will now regulate audiology and 47 states and the District of Columbia will regulate speech-language pathology.
