Stäfa, 03.09.2013 - The Hear the World Foundation is pleased to announce the fifth annual Judith Gravel Fellowship in Pediatric Audiology at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in the Department of Otolaryngology at UNC Chapel Hill. The fellowship was created by the Hear the World Foundation in 2010 and is named in honor of the late Judy Gravel who passed away in 2008.
“Dr. Gravel was internationally renowned for her expertise in pediatric audiology and for her many contributions to clinical research and professional service,” said Professor Richard Seewald, a member of the Advisory Board for the Hear the World Foundation. “She is also remembered for her dedication to the advancement of educational opportunities for students and clinicians. With this fellowship, the Foundation carries on her mission."
The Gravel Fellowship is awarded each year to a 4th year Doctor of Audiology (AuD) student whose externship is completed at UNC Hospitals with a focus on audiologic management of infants and young children with hearing loss. The $15,000 award covers the period beginning June 1 through May of the following year, in order to help support that student’s educational needs in pursuing a career in pediatric audiology.
Application
For students interested in applying for the 2014-2015 Gravel Fellowship, applications are being accepted now through October 31st, 2013. Applications should be sent to: Judith_Gravel_Award@hear-the-world.com. The recipient will be announced in December, 2013. Application requirements include:
- Graduate transcript*
- GRE scores*
- 3 letters of recommendation
- Personal statement conveying interest in the Gravel Fellowship. Emphasis should be placed on the candidate’s interest in the practice of clinical pediatric audiology. Personal statement may also be used to describe the applicant’s research experience and interests.
- Resume
*Unofficial transcripts and GRE scores are acceptable.
2013-2014 Fellowship Recipient
For last year’s fellowship winner, Bernadette Rakszawski, the opportunity provided by the Foundation has been life-changing. “I know that the experience of working in diagnostics and amplification this year will guide me on the path to a strong career spent best serving children with hearing loss,” said Bernadette. She is currently a fourth-year AuD student at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.
