Breakthrough solution makes vestibular diagnosis and treatment more accessible

Schaumburg, IL | July 2015 – GN Otometrics, the leading global manufacturer of hearing and balance instrumentation, announced today the release of the latest version of ICS Impulse® – the gold standard in vestibular testing. The new ICS Impulse is available for sale in the U.S. and Canada. The new release introduces a modular approach, starting with a base model that offers monocular video frenzel testing. This base hardware solution, the lightest weight goggles on the market, can be updated to include additional vestibular test modules at any time.

Patient with ICS ImpulseThe new scalable release provides an affordable entry point to vestibular testing, and offers a platform for future expansion into more complex assessment like vHIT. “When it comes to improving vestibular patient care, a modular approach to vestibular assessment is a game changer,” says Wendy Crumley-Welsh, audiologist and product manager at Otometrics. Adding, “Modularity enables customers to determine which solution works best for their practice, and expand into more complex diagnostic and assessment protocols like vHIT when they are ready. We look forward to adding new vestibular test modalities, beyond vHIT, to the Impulse 3.0 platform in the future.”

She continues, “With the Video Frenzel test module, audiologists, physical therapists, and physicians who treat patients with vestibular symptoms now have the ability to test with vision and vision denied – eliminating fixation suppression. With this new release, care givers can now view and record sessions in OTOsuite Vestibular software, and even extend their screen to an external monitor for improved test visibility.”

ICS Impulse is the result of more than 20 years of research conducted in conjunction with Michael Halmagyi, M.D., and Ian Curthoys, Ph.D. First introduced to the U.S. in 2013, ICS impulse is the only product that meets standards established by Halmagyi and Curthoys, who are credited with having first described the head impulse test in 1988.

ICS Impulse 3.0 is exclusively available through Audiology Systems in the United States. To learn about the new, modular system, visit www.audiologysystems.com/impulse.
