Carkhuff’s (2014) helping skills, Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Listen, Empathize, Agree, Partner (L.E.A.P.) are counseling strategies employed in health care to manage obesity, smoking cessation, alcohol use, exercise regimen, drug addiction and medication compliance. These strategies will be described, with emphasis on their utilization for managing patient denial and ambivalence toward hearing aid use as well as compliance with recommendations.
