I just happen to have one of those audiometers which address high frequencies. I will delight in using the higher frequencies during testing for those children who have histories of ME problems or pass screenings but have difficulties in class ... wondering how that equates to my special needs clients in the speech program. Really enjoyed this course. The information posed questions that would be of interest if there have been studies to address.

This article shed light on the significance of extended high frequency hearing in all age groups. It was interesting to think about how EHF loss could be affecting my older adult population as I think about individuals with more difficulty hearing in noise than I would expect from their regular audiogram.

With so much talk of hearing loss and dementia today this course, even though not on that subject helps you to understand how EHF loss is not just a aging problem, but starts very early for some.

EHF testing has not been anything I've even thought about since my school days doing ototoxicity monitoring for cancer treatment. Many hearing deficits are encountered today that have a normal standard audiogram, so you wonder what else may be going on. But then the question remains, if you document EHF, what can you do about, due to the limitations of amplification?

I was very interested to learn the relationship between extended high-frequency hearing loss and word recognition ability in noise. This will change some of the things I explained in my counseling sessions.I have tested extended high frequencies for about 10 years now. I have also found that it is an early predictor of hearing loss in the lower frequencies.

I would have liked to see more information on treatment. The measurement of EHF may be easy to adopt in clinic and yield interesting information, but how does it change/inform clinical treatment. I was once told that there is little point in doing testing if it doesn’t change or inform the recommended treatment. Once we identify EHF hearing loss, what do we do with it?

I've been seeing more and more patients with "hidden hearing loss" and have been looking for ways to clinically asisst them. While this course will not change what I am doing right now (my audiometer doesn't extend to 16000Hz), it is definitely going to change how I think about this and will impact the future!

I have always thought about testing above 8000HZ and done many times only 12000 as that's all given by audiometer. I have observed similar observation. Tinnitus and other people with normal hearing but problems in speech perception in noise had some hearing loss at 12000 HZ.
