Question
With Minimally Invasive Ponto Surgery, does the hair still need to be removed around the periphery of the abutment site?
Answer
For many people undergoing bone anchored hearing surgery, their post-surgical appearance can be a great concern. The new Minimally Invasive Ponto Surgery (MIPS) has been designed to create the smallest possible incision that fits perfectly with the Ponto abutment. This removes the need for suturing, which means no scarring and quicker healing.
In bone-anchored surgery, it is necessary to shave the incision site. In general, with the MIPS approach, it is a smaller area that is shaved.
