Drives home very vital, valid points re healthcare for the hard of hearing who are non-users of hearing aids. Ignoring these facts that substantiate those individuals have greater costs for healthcare and engage more often with the hospitals seems negligent. I recognize everyone needs to be responsible for themselves and their choices, but are we educating folks enough that they realize the full impact of their choices?

This topic was something I never thought about-the effect of hearing loss on people navigating the healthcare system. As Dr Reed stated, the fact that we are more aware of dementia and hearing loss in patients, more providers are becoming aware of the impact of hearing loss on an individual's health. It is not a topic that I have not really seen much in my journals. It was very insightful.
