This course will provide an overview of current adult auditory rehabilitation clinical models and barriers that tend to present among various settings. We will review key auditory rehabilitation components and the potential roles of audiologists and speech-language pathologists in a comprehensive, patient-centered approach.
Learning Outcomes
- After this course learners will be able to describe the similarities and differences of the current models of aural rehabilitation.
- After this course learners will be able to identify perceived and real barriers to aural rehabilitation that are present in various clinical settings, including feasibility, patient interest, and interprofessional collaborative communication.
- After this course learners will be able to summarize the value of key players in aural rehabilitation, specifically identifying the roles of SLPs and audiologists in patient-centered care.

Kara Vasil, AuD earned a BS in speech and hearing science from The Ohio State University in 2012 and her Doctor of Audiology from the Northeast Ohio Au.D. Consortium in 2016. Her clinical interests include diagnostics, cochlear implantation, hearing aid fitting and assistive devices. She is a research audiologist at Ohio State's Buckeye Center for Hearing and Development and a member of the American Academy of Audiology, American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and the Ohio Academy of Audiology.

Christy Ray, PhD, CCC-SLP is assistant professor in the Department of Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery at the Ohio State University. She earned her Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Speech and Hearing Science from The Ohio State University. She currently engages in clinical practice and research with a particular interest in optimizing outcomes of adults with cochlear implants.
