Counseling patients is one of our most important jobs as an audiologist. I no longer have students, however work with new graduates. They do watch me me with my patients and see how I counsel them on a daily basis. We discuss what's the best way to deal patients and their concerns. The article has given me better insight on how to teach the art of counselling to new audiologist.

I really enjoyed the ties between how we as clinicians work with our patient and, in turn, how we as supervisors not only model this for the student, but also demonstrate this in how we work with them as well. I learned that working with patients and working with students have much in common, and how we approach both can really impact what the student learns from our example.

I think Dr. Munoz talked about very relevant topics. I especially liked the correlation between how we counsel patients is often how we mentor/counsel students. I also thought it insightful to consider that a lot of people do not process their emotions very well and thus have a hard time talking to others about topics that could have some emotional connection. Well done!

I think it is helpful to remind us that students are capable of counseling patients. I remember as a student being nervous to voice a care plan, but in reality it might help the professional to talk about it as a team. Which will in turn help that patient.
