Really gets you thinking more about how to incorporate students into counseling and how to work with them so they do not feel like we just expect them to know everything. I like that the presentation hands out some tools to help with grading their performance as well.

I teach a precepting/supervision course as well as counseling skills in a Methods course, as well as focus on these things in the clinical practice arena in our on-campus clinic. The material was very confirming as to what I am already providing, which was wonderful. Also, a variety of great resources were shared, some of which I was already using and some new ones offered- so I am very excited to implement and infuse additional things into our program, and feel this is very important for our students and supervisors. This was the best course on this topic I have ever attended. Thank you!

Communication is an area where most students need to grow, simply because they lack experience. It is important to focus on development of communication skills as much as it is the development of the technical skills, yet technical skills are easier to assess and often take priority. I liked how the presentation talked about the self-reflection needed from both students and their supervisors.

Dr. Munoz focused in on an area that students need more experience learning and practicing to round their their graduate experiences. Sharing with those practicing audiologists who supervise these students is how we will focus on this during practicum experiences and hpefully broaden our abilities to counsel patients more effectively, as well.
