Organizational Unit Overview

 

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at East Carolina University, College of Allied Health Sciences offers state-of-the-art facilities with training across four different degree programs (BS, MS, AuD, and PhD). The Department supports an array of faculty-directed research programs of which many are supported by extramural grants and/or contracts. The Department houses a large space for faculty research, with a large number of sound-treated booths and specialized equipment. The Department also houses the ECU Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic, which offers a large population of patients seeking audiology and speech-language pathology services. Current clinical audiology services include adult and pediatric hearing evaluations, adult and pediatric amplification services, vestibular evaluation and management, tinnitus evaluation and management, and adult cochlear implantation and adult and pediatric auditory verbal therapy services. The CSDI departmental suite, research lab space, and Clinic are all located in the same building, in very close proximity to each other and adjacent to the Laupus Health Sciences Library. All graduate teaching is conducted in the same building.

 

Funding is typically available for graduate assistants to assist with teaching and research. Additionally, supports are in place for faculty members desiring to mentor PhD students. There is a large enrollment of AuD students (currently 48 students enrolled).

 

ECU is located in Greenville, North Carolina. The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, College of Allied Health Sciences, is housed in a state-of-the-art building surrounded by the Laupus Library, College of Nursing, Brody School of Medicine, School of Dental Medicine and ECU Health.

 

Job Duties:

 

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, College of Allied Health Sciences at East Carolina University invites applications for a 12-month tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The faculty member will be an integral part of the doctoral and undergraduate programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders. The faculty member will be responsible for teaching didactic courses primarily at the Au.D. level; there is the potential to teach Electrophysiology I/II, Advanced Acoustics, Psychoacoustics, and Auditory Pathologies. The faculty member may also be responsible for teaching at the B.S. and Ph.D. levels, maintaining a programmatic line of research, seeking extramural funding, and performing service duties.

 

Minimum Education/Experience

 

• An earned Ph.D. from an appropriately accredited institution in Communication Sciences and Disorders or a related discipline.

• Specialty in the field of audiology or closely-related field.

• Ability to serve as instructor for multiple courses within the audiology curriculum at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

 

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation: None
