Teleaudiology is no longer a future concept. It’s in practice today and can help motivate patients to seek hearing healthcare and pursue solutions for addressing communication challenges imposed by hearing loss. Hearing aid consultations, fittings, and fine-tuning/troubleshooting are all possible with remote interactions that do not require physical presence. TeleHear is a successful teleaudiology service which provides online consultations with patients and clinics across the United States to review treatment recommendations and follow-up care for those with hearing loss. This final segment of Starkey’s Telehealth Series will share valuable lessons learned by the TeleHear team on how to implement teleaudiology in your practice to benefit you and your patients.

Dr. Kristy Lowery, Ph.D., CCC-A, FAAA has over seventeen years of experience helping patients of all ages in a variety of settings including ear, nose and throat clinics as well as in private practice. She is a Fellow in the American Academy of Audiology and holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech Language and Hearing Association. Dr. Lowery received her undergraduate degree from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi and received a Master’s Degree in Audiology and her Ph.D. in Speech and Hearing Science from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Her area of interest and specialty is in the diagnosis and treatment of hearing loss. Most of her clinical research was in the area of amplification, specifically looking at noise reduction technology in hearing aids as it relates to the objective and subjective outcomes of hearing aid users. She has been on the TeleHear team for StarkeyHear Care for four years, providing audiology support for both providers and patients. Over this time, her role has expanded with the growth and adoption of teleaudiology. She looks forward to what the future brings with this platform!
