In order to understand the history of how OTC hearing aids came to be, what it means to audiologists, and how practitioners are integrating OTC into their practices (or not), this course explores the history of OTC hearing aids (legislative action, public policy outcomes), potential impacts to the practice and provision of audiology, and how audiologists can leverage their knowledge of electroacoustic test methods to evaluate any product (including OTC) in the context of an evidence-based clinical treatment approach.

In anticipation of the 2024 revision of ANSI S3.22, “Specification of Hearing Aid Characteristics,” this presentation will review the significant updates in the latest version of this seminal standard. The primary focus will be a pragmatic approach to conducting the ‘ANSI Test’ effectively and efficiently for each leading hearing aid manufacturer.

This course will provide case examples of patients who have been evaluated for a cochlear implant with a summary of their outcomes. Examples will include testing of patients with Single Sided Deafness (SSD), traditional candidates, and patients who qualify for hearing preservation surgery, such as those with normal low frequency hearing and severe to profound high frequency hearing loss.
