The course will provide clinicians with a framework for evaluating and treating tinnitus patients, including counseling for Thoughts and Emotions, Hearing, Sleep and Concentration difficulties. It will include the application of hearing aids, and wearable and non-wearable sound therapy devices.

Remote adjustments of hearing aids are becoming more frequent. To gauge patient engagement, several studies were conducted to evaluate improvement on multiple outcome scales. In one study the caregivers for hearing impaired individual subjects with cognitive decline reported on the impact of remote programming on a reduction of burden scale. Implications for use of remote programing with several patient population will be discussed.

The characteristics of the sound environment have a fundamental impact on the performance of the hearing aid user. In this course, we will describe the obvious and sometimes more subtle aspects of sound environments that will affect hearing aid performance.

Feedback in a hearing aid fitting can be problematic for a number of reasons. Potential consequences include not only annoyance and discomfort for the listener, but also a reduction in sound quality and speech understanding that can impact the overall benefit of amplification. This course will discuss what feedback is, when and why it occurs, and will provide the professional with an understanding of the signal processing strategies used to manage feedback in hearing aid technology today along with some practical clinical considerations.

Hearing care professionals can gain valuable insights to what their patients’ initial listening experiences might be like simply by listening to the hearing aids. In a novel experiment designed to put Hearing Care Professionals in the shoes of their patients and to illustrate how sound quality can positively color the initial experience trying hearing aids, ReSound field representatives were trained to demo ReSound LiNX Quattro hearing aids on HCPs in a similar way that HCPs might do with their patients.

This presentation will discuss ReSound’s Li-ion rechargeable solution. Hearing instrument and charging unit features will be reviewed as well as patient benefits.
