Menière Disease (MD) and Vestibular Migraine (VM) are the 2 most common causes of episodic vertigo. Diagnosis of both disorders is based on clinical history and on audiometric exam showing, in Menière Disease, sensorineural low-frequency hearing loss. At onset, differential diagnosis is often a puzzling dilemma, considering that around 50% of MD subjects also experience migraine, and VM patients, in many cases, report cochlear symptoms during attacks. Recent works propose that according to phenotypes and comorbidities, MD could be differentiated into subgroups, each presenting peculiarities for onset and evolution, MD with migraine among them. Other authors proposed a similar work for VM patients. In this webinar, Dr. R. Teggi examines clinical and etiological conditions commonly shared.

This course will review forensic audiology as an area of practice. Topics include forensic audiology in general, the expectations of attorneys in hiring expert witnesses, discussions of the differences in criminal and civil cases, and the progression of civil cases as well as case examples.

Patients with unique audiometric configurations have individual and critical needs to achieve audibility and to optimize their interpretation of speech and environmental sounds. Understanding the patient’s needs, capabilities and the limitations of their hearing loss will help assist with the fitting process. Accessories and connectivity are a critical component of patient success that should be considered. This course will examine available strategies to meet the needs of individuals with unique audiometric configurations and approaches that may be appropriate to consider when fitting these patients.

This course reviews recent literature on occupational stress in audiology, discusses the need for additional research in this area, and describes ways in which audiologists may want to approach stress reduction within the profession.
